Lauren, I am sure that the Juice will be perfect instead of Cider if that is not something that you would otherwise get use out of! You really need the liquid to get it going and the Juice will have a great apple flavor, so it should be fine!

does it have to be apple cider? I've made this recipe once using the apple cider but the rest of the cider then went to waste. I have a juicer and can make fresh apple juice, do you think that would work? Not sure how much it would change the taste or if you really just need a small amount of liquid in there to get it going.

Abby, when you add more apples (at the 8-10 hours) you should not need more spices or cider. Play it by ear (or taste-bud) but it should be fine without. Best of Luck, hope you love it!

Hayley I am so sorry to hear that this did not work out well for you!! It almost sounds to me like it was not cooked enough and that is why it was so chunky and liquidy (the more it cooks, the more everything gets all gooey and yummy and together). Don't give up though, maybe try again with adding a tiny bit more sugar from the start and allowing it to cook more? Let me know how it goes when you try it again!!

So bummed, this was a giant failure, haha. I made a big batch (in retrospect, I should have started small) and it was ridiculously chunky, so I put it through the blender and that got the chunks out, but the taste is so bitter. I added some sugar and that helped a little but not much. Also it's not very thick, it's pretty runny. Any ideas for next time? I am afraid to try this again.

Does it have to be apple cider? I know it probably does, but I am home all day without a vehicle while the hubby is at work and I have 3 jugs of Apple juice. No cider :( Would that work if I could add some more spice, or brown sugar or something?
