S’mores Bars in a Jar

 Its Back to School Time!

I am so ready to go back to school. I love my job and what I do – and by this time of the summer, I am ready for my regular routine again and to share in the daily lives, learning, and excitement of my students.

If you have kids going back to school, you might be looking for some easy gifts. Even if you don’t need an easy gift now: the Holidays are quickly approaching! You could even make this and keep on hand for a quick grab-n-go gift. I made this S’mores Bars (mix) in a Jar over the summer and donated it to Quiet Valley for a raffle prize at the end of the Rooster Run.

Items in Jars are just so cute and easy to make/give – so come up with a reason (or no reason at all) to brighten someone’s day and make this simple jar gift today!

S'mores Bars in a Jar
Prep time
Total time
Serves: 1 jar
  • 1 ½ cups Teddy Grahams or Graham Crackers crumbled into medium pieces
  • 1 ½ cups miniature marshmallows
  • 1 ½ cups your favorite flavor chocolate chips
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 (quart) mason jar
  1. Layer all or your ingredients in the mason jar (in the order listed) and then write and attach an instruction label...
  2. “Preheat oven to 350º F. Prepare a 9” square baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Mix all contents of the jar along with ½ cup melted butter in another bowl, then pour into the prepared baking dish and press firmly. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cool completely. Cut into bars.”

    • Thanks Kel… although I need to come up with a Chocolate/Peanut Butter variation for you! 🙂

  1. instead of just graham cracker crumbs, do you think you can do half graham cracker crumbs and half oreo crumbs?

    • Sure, I don’t see why not – if cutting the recipe in half be sure to list HALF of the amount of butter when gifting it. The one thing I am not sure of, is how the baking time will turn out (a 8×8 instead of 9×9 for sure) – but not sure about total cook time or if it will be thick enough. Good Luck & let me know!!

    • Since everything gets mixed together and then baked – I would say you could make these quite a bit in advance, remember… people may often not bake with them right away too!! Feel free to stockpile now for all your holiday gift-giving though!

  2. it was really difficult to fit everything in a 35 oz jar – are these correct measurements? It seems like you have more ingredients than can fit in a quart

  3. So… my husband is a teacher and we received this as a gift. I followed the instructions to a “T” and it was the nastiest looking sloppy mess ever. This is not a good recipe!! It might look cute, but it does not bake up well at all.

    • 🙁 I’m so sorry to hear that it didn’t bake up well for you – hopefully it was still tasty!? I know I had loved eating it (and had made them NOT from a jar before even putting them in the jar the first time)
