Fondant Fun for a Sweet 16

Fondant Fun for a Sweet 16

These may look really pretty (ok, really pretty for my first time – at least maybe give me that?) but the taste is just ‘eh’. I was not a fan of any of the “boxed” flavors and the fondant tastes like worn out bubble gum. I am usually a taste over looks kinda girl (you can’t just be a pretty face) so overall, I give these a thumb down… even though they did look nice on the dessert part of the table.

BROWNIES – 2 ways

BROWNIES – 2 ways

Everyone LOVES brownies… seriously, what is not to love!? I have recently baked up two different brownies for people that I care a lot about.

[Christmas] Stained-Glass Jello

[Christmas] Stained-Glass Jello

Cookies and Cakes and Pies and Mousse and JELLO… yes, especially during the holidays when we just eat and eat and eat Jello is the perfect addition, remember “There’s always room for Jello”! Also Jello won’t fill you up too much (or fill you out) like some of our other holiday desserts.

Over the Summer I made a 3-layer red-white-blue jello for July 4th. I saw the Food Librarian’ blog about “broken glass jello” at that point and fell in love: this may be making appearances (with the appropriate colors) at as many holidays as possible!

This jello is SO easy to make…

RECIPE (double or triple as needed, play around: its Jello!)

  • 1 box green Jello (3oz)
  • 1 box red Jello (3oz)
  • WATER (see directions for amounts)
  • 1 package Knock gelatin
  • 1/2 can condensed milk

COLOR CUBES: Boil your water and pour ONE (1) CUP of boiling water into each one of your jello mixes, mix well, pour into your containers (I used my medium square ‘leftover’ dishes). Let sit in the ‘fridge for at least 3 hours. Then pop that out of the container and dice up the Jello. Mix (carefully) your chopped jello back into one of those containers – a 9×13 baking dish works great (don’t forget to line the dish with plastic wrap to be able to pop it out most easily).

WHITE: Melt 1 package of gelatin in 1/4 cup water. Once that it ‘melted’ add 3/4 cup boiling water mix well and finally add 7oz of the sweetened condensed milk (or vanilla almond milk as I used the first time – but it works better with condensed milk). Once the milk has cooled down a little bit, pour that over the green & red jello and pop that whole thing in the fridge. Let that whole thing chill for at least 4 hours.

Cut it into individual-sized pieces and become a kid again with your Jello!

And remember this: You are NEVER too old to embrace your inner child!

Apple Turnovers

Apple Turnovers

Birthdays, Holidays – all reasons to celebrate! Mom’s birthday was a few weeks ago & I wanted to make her apple turnovers and a smoked salmon quiche thing – but realized the evening before I didn’t have the ingredients to do so… just got bagels
